Good afternoon. This is a message from the Oakridge School District. The purpose of this message is to clear up communication around bus routes for this school year. Please know that bus services are status quo in our district. As you may be aware there are driver shortages across our country. In Oakridge we also are down a few drivers, temporarily. This will cause some routes to be late and doubled up as shared previously. Nevertheless we will continue to transport our students. Please know that transportation services will not be cancelled. The communication that was sent out was in error.
Due to very poor air quality, we are forced to cancel Jr. High football practice tonight, Tuesday, September 7th. We are planning on starting tomorrow if the AQI allows. We are sorry for the delay. Once we have run the routes the 2 days, we will know how many riders thee are and can rearrange routes if possible. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this temporary shortage. If you decide to transport your child in light of the delay, please call First Student to let them know your child will be riding so they are counted in the total number on the route. 541-782-3090. We are still experiencing trouble with our voice mail. Therefore if you are unable to leave a message, please call 541-782-2813 and we will take the information.

Dear Parents and Guardians, It has come to our attention that enrolled 9th-12th grade students in our high school during the 2020-2021 school year have not received their Pandemic-EBT benefits. After many hours of research, the Oregon Department of Education has come to the conclusion that there was a malfunction in their reporting system. Therefore, high school students were not added to the EBT database. ODE has assured me that they are working diligently to rectify this issue. We appreciate your understanding and want you to know we will notify you when the issue has been resolved. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ashley Kirkhart @ 541- 782-2813.

When the group at OES have left, the building will be cleaned and sanitized for the incoming command and they will move in at OES. We will then clean and sanitize the high school spaces. This communication is to share information with you about the wildland fires in our area. More specifically the infrastructure being put in place to battle the fires as it relates to our school district. As you are likely aware, the Willamette National Forest has ordered a Type 2 team to help fight the Middle Fork Complex fire. The command center will be set up in the OES building. All areas, except the KITS classrooms, will be assigned to the command today, July 31. The kits program will continue as planned. The West end corridor doors will be closed off for use by KITS students and staff only. Entry for students will be through the west end entrance. The safety of our community is of utmost importance to us. We assure you that we will partner with state, local, and federal agencies to support in any way possible. Thank you to the firefighters, support and operations staff who are coming to protect our communities and lands. You are all in our thoughts as we navigate through this situation.
Message to Our Community From The Oakridge School District: As you are aware, we are in the middle of fire season. The weather forecast for the next few days indicates possible lightning storms. The safety of our community and staff and students are our first and foremost priority. As a school district our obligation is to proactively plan to safeguard our community and access to education for our children. Therefore, we are working with the city to make plans to support if an evacuation would be needed. We are also working to safeguard pertinent information and materials for our District. WE ARE NOT EVACUATING. Out of an abundance of caution we are proactively putting contingencies in place to support and safeguard our community and students in the event an evacuation is ordered.
Are you or your student interested in the Pfizer Vaccine? A limited supply is available at the Oakridge Pharmacy. Please call 541-782-2617 for more information.
On July 22nd Oregon Department of Education released the Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resiliency Framework for the 2021-2022 School Year. This update will provide the guidance needed for OSD to prepare for our students returning to school on September 6th. The Resiliency Framework is advisory guidance, except where compliance is mandated by existing state or federal law. The best news is that “All schools will operate full-time, in-person instruction, every day,”. This means 4 days per week for Oakridge. Here are a few key updates in the guidance; Face coverings for all staff and students are being strongly advised, but not required while indoors. The CDC requires face coverings for passengers and drivers on public school buses. This order will remain in effect until lifted by the federal government and cannot be waived by state or local authorities. Physical distance of at least 3 feet will be maintained when possible, but will not prevent the return of all students to full-time, in-person instruction, every day. There is still a requirement of a two-week quarantine due to potential COVID illness, which would cause students to switch to online learning during that time. Therefore, we will continue to follow health and safety protocols for health checks on entry, hand washing/sanitizing, distancing when possible and some level of cohorting. Our goal will be to maintain full-time, in-person instruction without interruptions of illness. As we have experienced many times over the past 18 months, the state’s guidance is always subject to change, depending on the number of COVID cases in our state and local area. We will be focused on following health and safety practices while highly advising the use of face coverings, but not requiring them for staff and students. We will provide additional updates as we progress in preparing for school to start in September. You can refer to the Oakridge School District Website, app, and Facebook page for updated information. Stay Tuned
Back To School Survey 2021 Back to School 2021 is approaching, we are gathering information from our school community as we develop our our Ready Schools, Safe Learners Resiliency Framework. Will you please take a few minutes to share your thoughts with us? What we know at this time: Students will be in person all day, 4 days per week Protocols for staff and students to check in upon arrival will remain in place Cleaning and sanitizing protocols will remain in place Social distancing will be 3 ft to the greatest extent possible CDL is not available as it was last year Online courses will be available for families but will not have the asynchronous component used in CDL School bus transportation is regulated by guidance for all public transportation. That guidance currently requires drivers and passengers to wear masks. More information and the draft plan will available for input in the coming weeks. The link to the survey is here: https://forms.gle/FBug8oX34xcX9A1x5. We can not add live links on the app, sorry. You can access the survey by typing in the link in your browser, through the news feed on our website or a hard copy is available at the district office.

As I’m sure you have already seen, the newest COVID19 data show the case rate in Lane County rose to 30.61 per 100,000 people and the test positivity rate is 5.2%. In order for K-3 students to attend in person as an exception under Comprehensive Distance Learning, Lane County rates must be under 30 cases per 100,000 people and the test positivity rate must be under 5%. Please keep in mind the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority metrics guide whether we re-open in person or not. These are conditions that must be met in order to begin K-3 in person or limited in person instruction. In order to qualify again for K-3 to begin in person instruction, the case rate must be under 30/100,000 and the test positivity rate must be under 5% for 3 weeks in a row. September 28 is the initial restart data (week 1). K-3 in person is also contingent upon our school having zero student or staff cases of COVID in the past 14 days prior to opening. We have had zero cases in our District at this time. We will be monitoring the numbers and will be prepared to begin on an A/B schedule with K-3 in person when it is safe and allowable to do so. The link to the Lane County Public Health Metrics is on our website under NEWS, if you would like to monitor as well.

Comprehensive Distance Learning: Kindergarten, 1 st grade, 2 nd grade & 3 rd grade parents/guardians will be contacted by your classroom teacher on Monday or Tuesday with login information and meet times for Wednesday and Thursday cohorts. 4 th grade, 5 th grade, and 6 th grade will begin Comprehensive Distance Learning online Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Technology: K – 3 parents may pick up a chrome book for their child on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 between the hours 6 AM to 4 PM at Oakridge Junior/Senior High School front office.
Oakridge Families, Thank you for your patience as we have navigated through this latest disaster in our state. It has been my hope that the smoke leading to the hazardous air quality would begin to improve. Guidance is now saying that may not happen until later in the week or next week. So given that, we are pivoting on our school plan to reopen. We need to get our kids started in the school year. Please take a deep breath and know it will all be ok. Things during these times are not elegant, they are messy. This will be messy for a few days as well, let’s all hold on and move forward together. Here is how we are going to do it. We are switching our plan to have K-3 students come in person on Wednesday. We are starting them online until the air clears up and we can safely get them from home to school and back again. Monday afternoon and Tuesday, staff will rework schedules for meeting with students and parents to discuss Acellus online curriculum and Google Meets. You will also be contacted about picking up chromebooks if needed. School for grades 4-12 will be in the online model that we have been preparing for, CDL or Comprehensive Distance Learning. Things have been put in place for grades 4-12 to begin in CDL (online). We will begin with 4-12 on Tuesday. Principals Chapman and Iten will put out information that includes updates, changes, and reminders concerning the opening this week. Tuesday chromebooks will be issued to all K-3 graders who have not yet requested them and will now need them for CDL (online school). Please watch our website; NEWS and LIVE FEED, facebook, and our app for further information coming from the schools.
Due to unhealthy air quality and low visibility for travel we will not hold school or deliver meals today. Forecasts for air quality and smoke show conditions improving this afternoon and continued improvement through the week. Be safe.

Posted for First Student Parents, Due to COVID19, students must enter and exit the school buses in a specified way. In order to comply with this mandate, First Student must know that students are riding the bus ahead of time. The survey results were used to initially place students. Any “new” student(s) (not self identified on the survey) that we receive, will be added within 24 to 48 hours. This is because we may have to contact families for new pick up or drop off times or change the route to accommodate the new student(s). Our goal is to have them on the bus the next day whenever possible. If you have not heard from us and need the bus to transport your students in grades K-3, please contact us.
